induction story - so far (UK mumma to be)
So I was supposed to come into the hospital on Monday for induction but they couldn't get me in because they had no beds. I understand that's nobody's fault but I spent the whole day being told to call back every few hours only for them to tell me at 8pm it wasn't going to happen that day. Tuesday morning I called up and YAY they had a bed. Went in at noon and the pessary was inserted at 1:15. It was quite painful but I thought at least things are moving along. From 4pm I was having contractions (or what they like to call, 'tightenings' every two minutes for a minute , this went on for 24 hours! I thought I was doing good coping with the pain and I was being super active to try and bring it on strong, like on the birthing ball and walking around the hospital. That night about 11pm a midwife came round to monitor my contractions and totally broke my spirit when she went against what all the other midwives said and claimed that these weren't contractions but actually just my uterus being 'irritated'. I burst into tears because I genuinely thought I was in early labour. She then forced me (pretty much) to drink oramorph and go to sleep. I was so so against having any form of morphine drug, but she said I wouldn't be having her for a few days at LEAST and that unneeded to sleep.
Wednesday, At the 24 hour mark, I was expecting to be examined for dilation and then if I had dilated 2cm then they would pop my waters and I would go over to delivery suite.... at 1pm the midwife comes round and says that there is a sickness Virus on one of the wards and that they were going to have to delay any further treatment until
Further notice therefore, she would not be examining me. It's now 5pm, and my contractions have ceased, I have no idea when my treatment will commence or if I am being transferred to another hospital. But all I can say is that I'm so so disheartened, as thought that things were moving along quickly and I spent 24hours in pain for nothing!! I shouldn't moan as these are things out of their control, but I thought I would have a baby by now. My contractions (confirmed by the doctor) have not ceased and I'm just sat in hospital waiting, waiting, waiting.
UPDATE: I didn't commence treatment again until 5:30am this morning. I had a 6 hour tablet inserted which brought on some nice strong contractions. At 1pm I was checked and I was 1cm dilated ..... waiting to be checked but again my contractions have ceased! IM SO FED UP!!! Why am I just not going into labour and progressing???!!!
