To IUD or not to IUD

I've been thinking of getting an IUD because I don't want to have a baby any time soon and my boyfriend and I are risking a lot ... I can't take birth control pills/ shots because of a medication I'm on ... but I need to do something , I had a chemical pregnancy last year so I'm just playing with fire . Should I or should I not get one ? What are some side effects you all have had with it ?
