Would you be induced?

My doctor is talking inducement because I'm 37 weeks and my baby is measuring 3 weeks ahead, as well as me having a "higher BMI". Would you consider inducement at 39-40 weeks if baby hasn't come naturally yet? I have heard so many horror stories about pitocin and how induced labour is so much more painful. Before this, I had my heart set on as natural of a labour as possible, and even staying home with my midwife if I was progressing well. I know if I have an induction it will be so much more painful and the likelihood of needing an epidural is a lot higher. Would you consider being induced for no other reason than your baby measuring a bit bigger? I am not a doctor, so I know their advice is better than the knowledge I have, but I just feel so many women are being induced for no reason. Babies measure big on ultrasound so they induce and then the baby is a normal size. Having a natural labour is so important to me but I don't want to put my baby at risk.

Have you had an induced labour? How is it compared to a labour you've had that wasn't induced? Did you get an epidural? C section?

I'd ask more questions. Your dr may believe a c-section is likely if you don't induce, or some other reason that goes beyond baby simply being a little big.

No, I would not just because baby measured big. They are often wrong! My big baby came out in 3%!!!! They were so off on his size. Induction sucks and can lead to emergency c section. I had to be induced due to gestational hypertension at 37w and really wish baby had gotten more time. He had jaundice and trouble nursing because he came early.

I got the epidural. I ended up needing to get whatever drugs they use to keep my contractions going on track since the epidural slowed them down. But it was no big deal. The epidural made everything a breeze. Once it was time to push, I only had to do it for 30 minutes or so and the baby was out. :)

Personally, I am glad I got the epidural because I enjoyed my labor and got to hold my baby comfortably because I didn't have to deal with any pain. For everyone who has had a drug free labor, I applaud you because the pain involved is unbelievable.

I was offered picoten to speed labour back up again and refused it. 
My midwife said there's a 50/50 chance of needing a c-section after receiving it. 
My workmate also said that she got it and went from 0-10 on the pain scale as fast as you can say 'induction'

For me the pain was worse with my natural labor but I had back labor and I didn't have back labor with my induction. So the induction was easier. The only reason it was scary was because I was being induced because my sons heart rate was dropping into the 90s while on the monitor. I don't think I would induce just because the baby is measuring big. I also would only induce next time if it's medically necessary like it was this time.

I was 6 days over and trying every natural method of induction I could think of to avoid induction. I went into labour natural and managed an unmedicated birth. I really didn't want an induction. But I had a normal pregnancy and no weight concerns so your case is different

I will never ever be induced again. If I go more than 2 weeks over with this one I'll be having a csection. Some people seem to have no problem with it but my experience was terrible.

With my first I was induced and with this pregnancy I'm avoiding it like the plague from what I hear it's more painful than natural labor but I don't have anything else to compare it to, what I can say though is that the process was horrible for me and there was no break in my contractions with pitocin which caused my son's heart rate to drop drastically multiple times and I had to be put on oxygen. Also my epidural didn't work. I got induced because they said my baby was measuring big and he was only 7lbs 3oz when he was born at 39 weeks. I would have much rather went into labor naturally when my body was ready the doctors are not always right.

I had my first induced one natural and 2 epidurals being induced you'll still have to go through the labor pains your water breaking and again the pain trust it'll be the same
