Donating Breastmilk

Elizabeth
I'm a first time mom with a 5 1/2 week old baby and I am considering donating my breastmilk. I still plan to solely breastfeed my son but I seem to be blessed with the ability to produce a fair amount of milk. I'm not sure what the average is, but I can feed him then pump afterwards and get a 3 oz bottle and still be ready to feed him again 2 hours later. I wanted to wait until he was a month old and things were more settled and consistent. I started pumping this week so I could freeze milk for when I go back to work (when he is 3 months old). I'm thinking if I pump regularly, I should have plenty to be able to feed him and still donate.
I'd really like to help in this way. I can imagine what a frustrating emotional challenge it would be to not be able to breastfed if my baby was in the NICU. I was wondering if anyone here has donated milk before? What was your experience like? And do you have any tips? Thanks!
