Skin to skin immediately after birth?

I've been finding out so much information on how beneficial it is to have your baby placed on you for skin to skin contact right after birth. I have never done this with my other two boys.. but that was 9 years ago. Any mom's thinking about doing this or have you done it before? I've been told we need to let the hospital know in our birth plan before we go into labor.
