Help. Was this enough time?

I got a new mirena iud(not the same day the old one was removed) on the 23rd of December and waited will the 30th of December to have unprotected sex. Was this enough time for the iud to become effective. They say 7 days but does that include the day of insertion? Just want to know if i was in the clear. I also believe that I caught my period a couple days after the new insertion and I believe im still on it now.
