Do you think prenatal ultrasounds are dangerous?

Question

So several of my friends have been discussing not having as many ultrasounds during pregnancy or declining them all-together in low risk pregnancies because they say it's unsafe and harms the baby. What do you think? 
Personally, after a miscarriage and TTC for so long I won't decline them and will probably pay for extra, like a gender scan at 15-16 weeks and 2-3 others throughout my pregnancy to see the baby and calm my nerves, and the ones my midwife orders. If there were conclusive evidence that it is dangerous I would just do a gender scan and then whatever my midwife ordered, but until there's conclusive evidence I don't think I will worry about it.

If they were bad they wouldn't do them. They are only bad if excessive like in high risks where you seenavy all the time

Ahmmmmm it's very import to know the location of your placenta or if you are having twins and morphology . It's very safe! finding out the sex of your baby isn't medically necessary! I have medical backround and your friends sound a little bit crazy!

Ultrasound is used to mutate cells in experiments. My mother, who is a nurse and working on her nurse practitioners currently, cautions against many. They are not proven to be safe. That being said, the benefits of necessary ultrasounds outweigh the risks. This is why the anatomy ultrasound and any ultrasounds for high risk or specialized testing ARE a good thing!

At my midwife, you get one or two unless they have reason to believe you need more. I had a dating ultrasound and an anatomy ultrasound and am hoping they don't see any more reason to check in onbaby since they would only do that with cause.

I was worried too and brought it up. I ended up having to have extra but so far my boy is perfect! It heats up in there for an ultrasound which can then have the cells deform while developing.....(supposedly)

I personally feel like they should be done only when absolutely needed.. insurance(mine at least) only covers 3-early transvaginal to get an accurate gestation, anatomy scan, and growth check around 30-32w. Anything else has to be paid for out of pocket. I had to get a biophysical profile done at 30w and my baby got a 6/8 score.. they continued to send me for these scans every week hoping he would 8/8 and this went on for 6 weeks! I found it absolutely ridiculous to be exposing myself and my child to so many ultrasounds and told them enough is enough. They wanted my money plain and simple. Ultrasounds are so over done and I feel there has to be some kind of effect on the baby.

I have wondered about this also. But mostly because I remember reading about some famous actor who bought their own ultrasound system so they could see their baby anytime. 
It doesn't sound like a great ideal to have any unnecessary tests while pregnant.

I've had 6 ultrasounds my baby girl is 6 months now. But I don't think they are that harmful. But I'm no professional either.

I had maybe 8 total during my whole pregnancy because baby was always 3-4 weeks at least a head of schedule. My last three were due to excessive fetal growth and a baby measuring 41 weeks at 37. If it wasn't safe, then they would find another way to check up on baby in utero

There's some kind of supposed autism risk with too many ultrasounds. Dunno how solid that is. For me, my insurance wouldn't cover more than 3 ultrasounds for the whole pregnancy
