Should I break up with my boyfriend?

I've been dating this person for just over two months. We had been hooking up for a few months before we officially started dating. Since we're both super involved in college, the first month was very busy and we rarely had time to spend together. And the past month we've been in different states because of Winter Break. Anyway, he's super sweet and responsible and I do like him, but he can be HORRIBLE at keeping in touch. He only texts every other day, and those texts are just apologies for not texting...or nudes. I feel like I'm putting so much time and effort into communicating with him, but there's little reciprocation. I'm starting to doubt that he actually cares about this relationship at all and am having thoughts of breaking up or at least taking a break. Or should I give him a shot once we're both back in school???
