can codeine cause a false pregnancy test?

A friend of mine has had the brilliant idea of trying to trap her boyfriend by lying about being pregnant. He is smart and probably won't fall for it. I told her he is the kind who will not be satisfied with a picture of a positive test, or even a positive test, because it could belong to anybody. So he will likely ask her to get a test and he will want to be in the bathroom with her while she pees on the stick. 
So she said she heard that taking codeine will raise the htc level and will cause it to show positive on a hpt.
I've done a google search about it but couldn't find anything.
Do you guys think there's any truth to this? Any experiences with false positives after taking codeine?

Definitely not. I work with substance abuse patients in the hospital who are on opiates and codeine and I have never ever seen it cause a false positive pregnancy test. Tell your friend to grow up.

First of all, it's hcg. And, no. It won't cause a false positive on a pregnancy test. However, it very well could cause a false positive on a drug test, because it is a narcotic, which the body converts to morphine, and will show up as morphine, or opium, on a drug test. That's probably where she's getting confused. And, don't even get me started on the whole faking a pregnancy test to try trap her boyfriend. Is that really the kind of friend you want to hang around? Tell her to grow up.

Also, even if she managed to get a positive on a pregnancy test, she would only be able to "trap him" if she's actually pregnant. Eventually he'll catch on when there's no baby on an ultrasound or no baby pops out if her lol. Even if she were to them fake a miscarriage, you can't really use that as leverage to trap someone. I think your friend needs to get her priorities straight. No one will stay with you forever if they don't want to, kid or no kid.
