When is an appropriate time to start shopping ?

I'm a FTM and so very anxious about baby, I don't wanna go overboard with shopping 😂 but I'd like to start while I have the money, so that I can get all the important stuff out the way, and the smaller stuff later. When is an appropriate time to start shopping for baby ? I'm still in the first Trimester 
Update: I don't plan on having a baby shower being that I just moved, I don't know anyone yet.

FTM here.  My baby is 8 weeks old now.  I started shopping halfway through my pregnancy once I found out we were having a girl. One thing I learned about clothes that might be helpful is that the sizes are "up to" not "starting at", for example 3 months clothes are up to 3 months.  Not starting at 3 month like i originally thought.  I hope that helps.

I got the crib, stroller/car seat, high chair, some bottles, and diapers before I found out the gender because I was going to get gender neutral things for big items anyway so I could reuse them for future children. Everything else I got after the anatomy scan..I just found it easier to shop knowing the gender because it can get overwhelming. I just went to babies r us for the first time today at 32 weeks and got so overwhelmed with the options lol I wanted to buy everything!!

I would just buy things you know you will need right now if you can afford it. I bought a crib mattress when I was like 10 weeks because it was a good deal and I knew that I would need it! And plus then it's not a huge financial crunch right at the end. The only things I have bought so far though are the mattress and a ton of cloth diapers, and I am 22 weeks. I kinda just wait until I see a good price.

I dont know how far along you are, but I would wait until the third trimester for big purchases just because I think most exchange policies are 60 or 90 days....
If you feel you have some extra money right now set it aside so youll have it later. And literally doing that helps me...like take 50 bucks every time you get paid and put it somewhere like a book (a favorite one youll remember) a piggy bank, just some place where you know where it is but you dont see it.... (if I leave it on top of a dresser or something I usually end up spending it on something else...)
This is coming from someone who is hoping to be a first time mom soon, so take it with a grain of salt

If you plan on having a baby shower , hold off as much as you can till you see what you get. You've got a nice Chunk of time left till baby shows up. I'm sure you'll be doing a ton of research and browsing and if you can just hang tight, you'll probably find the stuff you think you want and need now isn't the stuff you actually end up wanting and needing once you've taken the time to look into options. Plus, once you find out the gender, you'll really really get into shopping. My best advice is pick up little things here and there but hold off as long as you can .
