when to put car seat forward facing?

I've been hearing mixed things about when to put the car seat forward facing. Some people say not to until they are two but the car seat manual and my doctor said at age 1 and at least 20 lbs. I was just wondering what you guys do! My lo will be a year old next month and she weighs 21lbs. TIA!

American Academy of pediatrics recommends waiting until age 2. I have 3 kids, 2 of which hated the car and screamed every min they were rear facing. Tough shit. I love them and put their safety first. Swedens law says rear facing until age 4!!!! I'm sure we can all handle age 2

My state's law is 2 years but when we got our seats inspected by the police station the detective told us the safest thing is to go by the seat's manual, when baby reaches the height/weight limit change it, could be before he's 2, could be when he's 3 or 4.

My son is 1 and weighs 8.5kg (18lb). My car seat rear faces til 13kg so got a while yet. New laws in my country babies rear face til 15 months. My dads car seat is forward facing from 9kg. Was told to wait until right weight before changing

What state are you in. The law in ca states that they are to be decided rear facing until 2 or 40 plus pounds or 40 inches tall. My 6 year old isn't even 40 lbs yet!

Effective January 1, 2017:Children under 2 years of age shall ride in a rear-facing car seat unless the child weighs 40 or more pounds OR is 40 or more inches tall. The child shall be secured in a manner that complies with the height and weight limits specified by the manufacturer of the car seat.

Follow your vehicle and car seat manual. We switched my daughter in November when she was 13m old because she started to hate rear facing, she'd fight you getting her into the seat and would twist herself around and everything possible. Once we changed her forward she now happily gets in her seat. She was also the minimum height and weight requirement based on my truck and car seat manual.

My car seat is rear facing until the age of 4. This is the new European law that is coming in this year for new car seat. It does have a height/weight limit so whichever she reaches first I guess.

I turned mine at 21 months because he weighed 35 lbs and that is the rear facing maximum weight. I have a 2 month old and will do the same with him. I don't care if he's legs are scrunched or he doesn't like it, his safety comes first.

You want to keep them rear facing for as long as you can. It's the safest for them in am impact because their skeletons are still fragile for years.
But if you look at your car seat manual, it should have instructions for when you can flip it if you want. I think the minimum is usually 1 year AND at least 25 lbs.
