Did your induction end up in a c section ?

My doctor told me it's very common for inductions to result in c sections. Since I may be getting induced next week I'm just curious did your induction end up in a c section ? Is my doctor scaring me for no reason ?

I work in L&D, the general thought is that yes elective inductions do have higher c sec rates. With that being said, if you're induced for being post due date there is new research to suggest those types of labors may have higher c sec rates regardless

Also scared about this. Due date 1/23, being induced on 1/25 if he doesn't come by then due to BP issues. Doing some serious positive thinking that he will make an appearance on his own sometime between now and Tuesday! Good luck!

I believe the reason people say that is because pitocin can be rough on both mom and baby.  The contractions you have with pitocin are much more strong and painful than naturally occurring contractions because you don't have the endorphines that are released with oxytocin. So often mothers get an epidural to help with the pain.  If you get an epidural too early, it does have the potential to slow your labor down and then they have to keep turning the pitocin up.  Sometimes babies don't tolerate this and it ends up being a c-section.

That being said, I had a successful vaginal delivery after induction.  Pitocin was started at 12:45pm, they broke my water at 4:30pm, started pushing at 6:30pm, and had a baby at 7:19pm. I'm a first time mom but had threatened preterm labor with contractions and a shortened cervix since 22 weeks.  So I was 4cm/75%/-2 to start with.

I had an induction and was very nervous about it but I felt could not have gone better.  I was already 3cm dilated when induced so that helped things.  Got the picotin started 11:30 thurs night by 12:30 was having contractions and quickly regulated to every 2 mins for 1 min... got an epidural when I was 5cm dilated around 4:30 am thank god!!! Had my little girl at 9:26 could feel pressure around 8:30 and when they had me start pushing around 9 she was already crowning. Hope this helps ease your worries a bit and good luck!

I went for in for my induction monday afternoon to install the cervidil, I was 1.5 cm only and stay at the hospital for the night since they were supposed to induce me the next morning. My waters break naturaly at 5am and I was still 1.5 cm 🙁 but at 8h30 the doc checked me and I was 5 cm! Yayyyy epidural haha! By 1h30 I was complete and ready to push. Had my baby at 15h11. 😁

I was also really nervous about this (due on 1/12, induced on 1/18 due to GD) but ended up having a mostly really positive vaginal birth! Gear up for being in the hospital for a LONG time, we were on pitocin for 16 hours before seeing any major progress.  It went pretty quickly after that though, only ended up needing to push for 30 minutes (but had to use vacuum to assist with delivery).  For me, it was generally a really positive experience, but I also had an epidural very early on which made the whole difference. If you are planning on it or comfortable with epidural, do NOT be afraid to ask for it right away! Our dr and nurses were incredibly supportive of it for pain management from the very beginning.

*also had to use balloon to get cervix started, which was NOT fun to get inserted, but helped a lot and my water ended up breaking naturally after about 3 hours with it in.  If I had to do over I would've asked for epidural before balloon!!

I was induced the day after my due date (baby was showing signs of distress) and I had a normal vaginal delivery.

Nope went in at 5 am had baby by 345pm. After I got the epidural, I progressed from 4 cm to 10 cm in 2 hrs. Evening went good!
