Should I give my 9 day old baby a dummy/pacifier?

As the title says really, if no. Why? We've gone 9 days without one but do baby's find comfort in having a dummy?

I gave my newborn a pacifier Day 1 at the hospital. He breastfeeding just fine. My pediatrician says "nipple confusion" is BS. I agree. He breastfeeds, takes pumped milk in a Tommee Tippee bottle, and takes a Dr. Brown's paci. He's 6 weeks old. It always comforts him, especially at night. And it's proven to reduce the likelihood of the baby to stop breathing suddenly at night.

It does help sooth them. Pacify means to calm down. Also it's been shown to reduce the SIDS risk. It's up to you. I tried giving it to her when she's just overtired and just wants the soothing sucking motion, so she could sleep and not be stuck on the boob, but she wasn't having it. I can't get her to take a passy at all

It depends on the baby. My son never wanted one. I tried and tried and he spit it back out at me every time. But if it helps soothe them then why not? Sure it's a habit that will have to be broken when they are older but so does a bottle and there is no helping that is there?! Lol. It's really up to you but if it helps the baby then I would say go for it!

My first daughter simply refused one for months. My second took it within a week - I tried because she was just sucking a lot on me and my nipples were starting to get sore. So I'm happy she took it. Mind you I only tried because she feeds very well as some dont recommend introducing too early in case it confuses them.

Some babies don't want them. Research says to not force it on them but if they want it then go for it.
