Boy troubles

Today I was home sick from school and my boyfriend sent a snapchat that he wants to just be friends ,but that when we're older will date again were both 13. Yet he still says he isn't going to date anyone so I just don't get the point of breaking up it's like I'm just supposed to wait for him. Can anyone explain this to me.
