Update: Do you believe after a certain age?

Virginia

When I hit 18 my parents gave me two options either go to college, live there and pay bills or move out and get my own place. Each of my siblings have had the same treatment. When we lived with our parents we paid rent, utilities and buy our own food. I know there are some people who let their children live free and stay for a long time. What's your experience and opinions?

Update: Wow! So many responses! When I had hit the big 18, I wasn't ready. I didn't find my interest in college and I was working a full time job. In return they cut me out of their insurance (expecting to afford insurance at 18), my credit went down the crapper and I am now paying off my debts slowly years later....I wouldn't do this to my boys. I want them prepared for life, teach them how to save and spend wisely. But I won't have a " failure to launch " moment where they live with me till the are in their 30's not unless there was a medical issue. Glad to see different perspectives! Keep em coming!
