is this odd??

Question

So I'm 9 weeks pregnant today. And my first appointment with my dr is when I will be almost 13. I talked to the nurse today and asked if I will be getting an ultra sound or anything at this visit or close after. And she told me I wouldn't get one until 20 weeks! When I was pregnant with my first they gave me one before my 20 week just to be sure the due date was correct and everthing was ok! Is this how they do it now? I see so many women on here getting ones from 7-12 weeks! Why the wait for me?!

With our 1st baby, I only had one ultrasound and it was at 20 weeks.  With my 2nd and 3rd, I had 2 ultrasounds each.  Now I'm pregnant with our 4th, I'm considered high risk but I've still only had 3 ultrasounds (currently 37 weeks).

Sounds kind of late to me. I had the first prenatal appointment at 7 weeks and first scan at 12 weeks. Why don't you look for a new doctor?

Huh. Strange. My OB does one between 9-12 and then another around 20! Most insurances cover both of those, so maybe contact your insurance and see what the cover!

I agree, that does sound odd. And awful late for your first appointment. I had my first appointment right before I was 9 weeks, they did an ultrasound to confirm my due date at that first appointment. I would actually call back and explain your concern - at least they can explain why they would do it this way.

This is very odd they usually do ultra sound around the 12 week mark. I'd find a new ob.

That's seems normal actually. If you're not having a high risk pregnancy then there really is no need to have an ultrasound until then, most doctors would pick to have an ultrasound at 20 weeks rather then any other time if they had to choose

I would switch OB's or call and ask why! That seems very odd to me. I had an ultrasound at 5 weeks because we didn't know how far along I was(I have extremely irregular cycles) and to confirm pregnancy. Since I was so early there was only a sac so he scheduled me 2 weeks later to make sure everything was good and going right and to have another ultrasound. That was today and I'm 7 weeks today. I won't go back for 4 more weeks and then go once a month. At my 20 week appointment I will have my next and I think past ultrasound provided by the dr. I'm going at 13 or 14 weeks to a special place for gender determination.

It could be what your insurance covers. Mine covers 2 but I have a growth scan ultrasound referral so I'll have a 3rd. I would talk to your insurance

That is odd and annoying! They tried to do that to me. Didn't happen bc I pitched a fit! If they don't give u one til then. Just go to ur primary dr and get a referral for a ultra sound for the baby's well being! Mine was so happy to give me a referall! That way u don't have to pay out of pocket for an ultra sound. And u can go to any ultra sound place U would like! :) hurry and go!!! So exciting
