Why is it tacky to host your own baby shower?

I've been reading online and apparently it's deemed tacky to host your own baby shower. Why is that? From the get go I had already decided that if I were to have a baby shower, I'd plan it myself. I find it odd to be sitting here waiting on someone else to volunteer to do it. It's my baby shower so why wait for someone else? I'm not expecting gifts or anything, me and the father have basically bought everything. I just want it to be a get together where we eat, have fun, and celebrate baby girl!! Why is this deemed tacky to host it yourself?

I couldn't care less about shower and baby etiquette...like seriously who gives a flying f*** who hosts it? Unless you're a socialite or something just do what you want! Before coming onto this app I didn't even know there were"rules" for this kind of crap lol.

People that write articles like that need a hug, because they're obviously insecure one way or another. 
I've never hosted my baby showers, but it's never been tacky to attend a baby shower hosted by the mother-to-be. New life is beautiful and should be celebrated no matter what. 
On a side note: I find it more frustrating when a baby registry isn't provided, because I would prefer to purchase something the mother really wants and needs.

Bc you're inviting people over to give you gifts. Asking for gifts is tacky. If you're not expecting gifts call it a celebration of baby and host away.

I planned my own.  Made the party favors, paid for the food.  I wanted to treat my guests.  Most brought gifts (I told everyone it was NOT required and my registries were there for ideas IF they wanted to buy something).  I just wanted to make sure it was fun for everyone.
 
Now - I recommend you get some helpers. Hahahaha.  I was way too busy during my shower when I should have been more relaxed (this is part of my personality too though.).

So to everyone stating that "shower" refers to "showering with gifts", actually the original baby shower was from the Victorian age, where women would host tea parties for expecting mothers. It was called a shower because it was tradition to carry an umbrella to these events. 
So. Baby shower=a party for a new mom and baby, has nothing to do with expecting gifts.
I'm hosting my own and *gasp!* registering for gifts. Do I expect gifts? No, and I stated such on the invite. but when everyone keeps asking about what to get baby, it's a lot easier on me to just to point to an online list than to start rattling off random items.

I threw my own! Maybe it's tacky? But I don't really follow rules so who cares. I paid for everything myself and did all the cooking/decorating. I had a great time and it was special to have people celebrate my baby with me.

It's not tacky at all!! The only reason I would think the tacky is if you were throwing it and asking for gifts.
But if you're just wanting to throw a celebration and no presents, say so on the invitation and nobody is going to be offended! Babies are a thing to be celebrated!! Do what you want to do ;)

Personally I don't think it's tacky. If you plan yourself, you ensure that everything is just how you want it.

We hosted our own and could care less if it's seen as tacky. Etiquette has always been annoying to us. We did our wedding on our own terms and we will continue to do everything else the same.
