did I make the wrong decision?

I am struggling with this tonight... Me and my boyfriend of almost 2 years recently broke up. He was my best friend, my only friend really and we were so close it was almost to close. But we broke up because I ended it. The reason I did is because we have been fighting a lot and we always say it will change, it will get better, we will be happy and it does for a little bit but then it goes back to old times. So this time I said I am done and he was balling and didn't want me to go and said "it will change" but I just could t believe it. I need opinions on if  you think I should have tried harder or if it was the right decision. I know I am going to miss him so much, it's not that I don't like him it's the fighting that pushed me away. Opinions please!
