Islamophobia in Canada?

So I know the US has gotten a lot of flack for Trump's "travel ban" but what are your thoughts on the more recent mass shooting in Canada on a mosque? It is said to have happened because of Islamophobia. I've never personally heard about this kind of thing in Canada so I was curious what people thought about it? Some articles say that Islamophobia has increased tremendously in Canada..does anyone who lives there finds this to be true?

I live in Alberta, which is usually known as redneck country. We all think this Trump business is ridiculous and unwarranted. It's plain awful. Islam is peaceful, radicalism is not. There is a difference. My heart goes out to the families of victims :(

I'm Canadian and while I can say racism isn't spearheaded by our current leader, it is unfortunately still present. I wouldn't say it's rampant but it does exist, as it does all over the world. I believe Quebec has the highest rate of racially motivated attacks of all the provinces.

I'm not sure since I'm not Canadian. But here was also a fire today in Texas at a mosque. I don't think the cause of the fire was determined yet but I'm sure you can guess it

I remember being in the car with my sister who wears hijab and a truck driver tried to scare us by tailgating and honking his extremely loud horn. He then gave us the finger and screamed for us to go back to our fucking country. This was back in 2012 in Mississauga, a very diverse city in Canada. My sister has been cussed at by strangers on the bus while pushing her children in their stroller. She's been told to go back to her fucking country several times. One lady even called the police on her at a fair because she thought she looked suspicious. So, yes, some Canadians do have a problem with Muslims.

Yes it exists in Canada. Not everyone has been welcoming to the refugees and those who practice Islam.

Two things...
1. Trump has nothing to do with Canada. In case people forgot, Canada and America are two different countries with separate leaders and government. Too many people are making this about Trump.
2. Of course the mosque shooting had to do with islamaphobia. It was clearly a specific group of people/religion that the shooter targeted.
