fake nails during c-section??

Question

Are you aloud to have fake nails on if you are having a c-section? Or do they make you remove them?! I've never had a c-section before so im not sure!!

I work in the OR and it's for infection control reasons. Acrylics are a breeding ground for bacteria and it makes it difficult to see if under your nails is clean or not. Nail polish should also be removed as it can flake off into the wound. It's the same reason you wouldn't see your doctors, nurses, or techs with them.

You will probably want to ask your OBGYN. They use your fingers to monitor your oxygen levels, it's one of the first indications if your oxygen levels are low. That's why they tell you no finger nail polish, but I don't know if that includes acrylics since if they are clear or French you can see thru them. 
They also clip the heart rate monitor to your fingers and depending on how long your nails are in could be in the way. So they may ask you to remove just one from your index finger. 
Each hospital is different and has somewhat different procedures, so I'd ask your OBGYN.

Maybe mine was different because it ended up being an emergency c section after going through hours of labor, but I had all of my jewelry on and they didn't remove anything during surgery. I was put under anesthesia because they needed to get my son out quickly, but when I woke up, I still had everything on and in tact. I don't wear nail polish or fake nails, but I'm sure they wouldn't have taken the time to remove them in my situation. I'm sure there are more rules when you have a scheduled c section though.

I just spoke to the Pre Adminstration RN tonight, with having a scheduled c- section, I am aloud light colors on nails or French chip and toes can be any color...  Why?.. have no clue it's even on some paperwork I have from them

I was told to leave one nail on each hand free and clear of any polish gel acrylic etc

I had asked my doctor today she said not to color my nails but if I want to its okay just leave a few fingernails clear so they can keep an eye on my color or something like that she said

I had gel and they never mentioned it. I'm pretty sure it's fine. I'd tell them to F off honestly. Your nails will not interfere with their work I can promise you that. They actually kept complimenting me on mine lol.

I had gels on for my last two csections. The prep nurses said I needed to "take it off" but I said I couldn't and the anesthesiologist didn't even mention it. No big deal

I had my nails done and makeup(i  don't wear much) on when I had a c section it wasn't an emergency but happened pretty quickly.... I wasn't told anything about removing my nail polish

They told me no arcylics so I got gels all pretty on my hands & feet then I was told the day before I had to go get it all removed boooo lol ! They need to be able to see your nail beds to make sure your getting enough oxygen xx
