Is being too tight really a thing?

So the other night I had my first one night stand. I've had plenty of sex with my ex before this event but, since we broke up I've had a dry spell. I hadn't had sex since October. Being wet wasn't a problem but, I was a little tight and the guy said it was too tight for him with the condom on. Is that a common thing or was just an excuse to try and get out of a condom? I don't think it was bad sex...
