will I hear heartbeat at 12 week scan?

Hi ladies,

I'm overweight & scared I won't get to hear the heartbeat at my 12 week scan!! Just want to hear that noise so bad! Had a scan at 8 weeks & could see the heartbeat flickering fast. So nervous anyone been through this any advice? X

Here in the UK your 12 week scan is normally your dating scan so they can figure out how far along you're measuring and make sure everything is okay. I got to hear my baby's heartbeat at 15 weeks at my midwife appointment :) you can always ask the sonographer or purchase a Doppler to see if you can find it yourself!

On an ultrasound yes,  on doppler it can be tricky to find before 14ish weeks depending on baby's position.

I'm overweight and heard heartbeat with ultrasound at 6 weeks, and then at 9 weeks via Doppler (doc found it really quickly!) I would bet they can find it at 12 weeks pretty quickly :)

Yes you should be able to hear it.  I'm overweight and heard mine at 9 weeks. Sadly when I went back at 13 weeks it was gone 🙁
