Jaxson Valentines Birth Story
After my 36 week growth ultrasound the technician told us little Jaxson was already measuring 8lbs 14oz. So. It so little lol. I tried everything after that appointment to try and prepare for labor. I bounced on my exercise ball for hours. I walked 5 miles a day. Started taking evening primrose oil both orally and vaginally and lots of sex. Along comes my 37 week appointment and I got my first cervix check and I was a big fat 0. No dilation...very high baby. My OB went ahead and manually dilated me to a 1. I was a little upset by this of course but kept persisting with walking, EPO, ball bouncing etc.
I knew we were now on the clock. My original plan was that I wanted a completely natural birth with no interventions so induction and the dreaded C word were my worst fears.
38 week appointment and my cervix went back to 0!!!! How could this be happening?? I did all my research and tried absolutely everything. My doctor again stretched me back out to 3cm. (Which did not feel very good btw)
After further talking to my doctor we set an induction date for Valentines Day. I was still hoping to go naturally before my induction date but after knowing his size we were worried if he went full term he would get stuck and we would need a cesarean. Of course he was very happy where he was so no going into labor by myself.
So 4am valentines morning we arrive at the hospital. They check me and I am still at a 3 so they start fluids and Pitocin.
My doctor arrives at 9am and I am now 4cm so she goes ahead and breaks my water. Contractions were very mild up until this point. After water breaks I was able to use my birthing ball and walked around my room to deal with the pain. Contractions are now getting intense. Time to focus.
11:30am and nurse checks me and I'm a 6. She was happy with my progress. But right after she checked me all hell broke loose. Right before then my contractions were about 2-3 minutes apart and painful. It manageable. Right after she checked me they jumped to every minute and over the top painful. I ended up asking for some pain relief through the IV which didn't do anything but make me dizzy so I lay down on my side and BAM.... I start feeling horrible pressure. I can't help but push on my next contraction so my husband yells for the nurse. The nurse runs in and tells me I'm an 8 and need to stop pushing. No Way. I had no control over my body at all. Not 2 contractions later the nurse is frantically calling the doctor and other nurses bc baby is coming now. Yep I went from a 6 to a 10 in about 20 minutes. I pushed for another 20 minutes and my Doctor finally arrives throwing on her gear as fast as she can. Only a couple pushed later and he is crowning. At this point my poor husband is freaking out at the sight of me moaning and screaming through the pain and all he manages to do is encourage me telling how well I'm doing and dab at my brow with a cold rag in between pushes. Let me tell you the pain and pressure while pushing was out of this world.
After serveral attempts it becomes obvious that his big head is not gonna come out without some help. So my OB makes a little cut to help him come through and next push he comes gently into the world. HAH nope. He comes flying out spraying everyone in close proximity with blood and nastiness lol. I only had 5 stitches thankfully but I did have a lot of bleeding afterward not from the placenta but from his sheer size so I had nurses kneading my stomach and my doctor turning the Pitocin all the up. She also gave me some other kind of medicine in my rectum (yeah that was gross) but finally we got the bleeding under control.
At 12:31pm on Valentines Day my beautiful boy Jaxson Greene was born by Pitocin induction without an epidural weighing in at 9lbs 15oz and 22in long.
This experience was definitely the hardest thing I have ever done but I feel so empowered that I was able to have at least some of the Birth Plan that I wanted.
He was my perfect Valentine's Day Present!!!!!
