We are working to budget for a baby before we are pregnant. I know costs can vary (and we are planning on getting a lot of hand me downs) but for those with little ones, about how much extra do you spend a month? Thanks! Just wondering

I didn't really notice a lot of change in our budget. We just adjusted and still have mad money so I wouldn't say having a kid was expensive. What was expensive was the birth - 7k out of pocket.

The costs the first year are about $12,000 in the US, and it goes up a little per year after the first.

I've never had a child but I've tried to figure this too. Please forgive me if I'm wrong. It I'm thinking when baby drinks milk only - it is around $300 monthly for milk & diapers - not counting extras (dr appts, etc). Of course it'd be cheaper if you breastfeed. When the baby starts eating baby food I'm thinking around $500-$600 monthly for food, milk, snacks, diapers. That would be around 6600 a year not counting appointments, toys, or anything else. This is just the necessities - food and diapers . Hope this helps and again mothers, forgive me if I'm wrong
