Should I take my 3 month old on a 4 hour flight?

I would like to hear opinions from parents who've flown with infants before. I'm going to ask her paediatrician. I have a baby due end of June and my sisters wedding is in October. I'm thinking of just staying home because I'm scared to put my little baby's body through all the stress of flying. I've heard there ears pop which is painful for them and they scream the whole time sometimes. Do they go through a jet leg and need to recover? What are your experiences? Also any tips on making flying with an infant easier and less stressful?

My husband and I were on a flight from Detroit to LA with a family that had four under five years, two brothers about 10 & 7 traveling alone, and a mother with her 7 month old. The best behaved one? The 7 month old. She just sat there smiling at my husband while the family with four played musical chairs and the brothers fist fought.
 
I sat next to a baby before on a flight and she only cried a little bit when we ascended and descended because of her ears. I helped the mom distract her and keep her calm. Not everyone hates sitting next to a baby on a plane. I love it 😊

When you're taking off and landing try to feed them. The sucking motion will help their ears pop and feel better :)

I flew from Canada to Texas with my son when he was 3 months old. For the most part he slept or drank a bottle. I chose to use a baby carrier and keep him close to me so he'd be comforted by that. Very little fussing.

It was much more difficult when we made the trip Texas to Canada trip when he was 2 🤦🏼‍♀️ I did it alone and it was a nightmare but the American Airlines staff and pilots have always been an amazing help. One of the pilots came out at the end of the flight to help me carry the car seat off the plane rather then have me struggle to carry both it and a squirming toddler and carry on luggage.

I flew with my baby at 4 months. She did great. My pediatrician said to just make sure she was sucking on something when landing and taking off. She did amazing.

I took my  7 month old on a 3.5hr flight by myself and she took it like a boss! A 3 month old would be even better because they're not as active and they can't cry as loud. Make sure you change her diaper before boarding, and breastfeed/bottle feed her during take off and landing. Other than that I bought her 2 new toys to entertain her and I brought a tablet with downloaded nursery rhyme videos on it. Pretty decent flights there and back. Minimal crying, it was good. You and your baby can do it!

I flew with my 5 month old and on the first flight she screamed bloody murder for about an hour. She needs to be moving always and is highly sensitive plus she is the loudest infant of all time.
In the way home she slept almost the whole way but it was a late flight.

My family is moving from Pennsylvania to California in October, baby is due August 4. My husband is driving our car and our dog out while I fly with the baby and our cat. My mom is coming on the flight with me so that I have help with all the little ones (furry and otherwise 😂). I'm not too worried about flying with the baby, especially because there's been at least one crying baby on every flight I've ever been on, but I think my poor cat is going to cry the whole time LOL. She's very vocal and I doubt this will be an exception. We are planning on getting a seat for the baby so we should have a whole row to ourselves if the plane has rows of 3.

But really, even if she hates it and cries the whole time, it's like 6-8 hours max flying time, and then we will be in Sunny California lol and she won't need to get on a plane again until December when we go to Rainy England to visit my husbands family for Christmas. The baby won't remember it and she won't hate you even if she hates flying lol they get over things quickly.

3 months is such an easy age when going on a flight! Did that with my daughter and she did great- it's normal to feel nervous or anxious about it but I think it would be great for you and your LO to experience!

I flew with my daughter when she was 7 months and she did great on the flight. She had 0 problems with her ears and she didn't even nurse or suck on a pacifier during take off and landing. Our trip was super long we flew from Nashville, TN to Frankfurt Germany and had a layover in Charlotte, NC. It was super hard on her, especially the time change. She couldn't really sleep to good on the international flight, she kept getting woken up (there was a baby that screamed the whole 8 1/2 hours 😖) . But she was definitely a trooper, she was all smiles even after being exhausted. Her sleep schedule was all sorts of messed up though, there is a 7 hour time difference. We traveled during cold and flu season so of course we both ended up sick. Luckily my daughter didn't get sick till we got back home. I personally wouldn't take such a long trip again. It was definitely extremely hard on the both of us, but I would be ok traveling within the US with a baby. My advice is to Baby wear through the airport, bring some extra time for the security check, bring disinfectant wipes and bring a changing pad (the changing tables are disgusting), have some extra outfits in case of a blowout, bring plenty of diapers and wipes, ask to pre board at the gate, check if there are empty seats at the gate, buy a protection bag for the Car Seat and Stroller or rent them at the Airport.
