Would you take them back?

Me and my ex were together for a year and a half and throughout the relationship I suffered a lot of emotional abuse and he always said he never meant to hurt me it was just his attitude. I cried so much during the relationship because he was just that mean one night he told me he was not attracted to me in anyway which really hurt. But when everything was good we were good we were literally best friends. He broke up with me because he said he was tired of hurting me and I deserved better. I cried and begged (pathetic I know) for him to stay but he was adamant. We go to the same school so I still him and we still talk and we both love each other very much he says he just wants to work on himself to make him better for me... would you take him back if he did change?
