Do you think it's okay for parents to curse with their young children?

So I was never allowed to curse around my parents and my parents have never done it around theirs. I see a lot of the newer generation of parents cursing with their kids. And I don't mean cursing around them when they are talking with another adult but use cursing as part of the English language. There is someone I know who talks to their child in the form of, "James, why are you being a dick head?" And the kid respond, "Fuck you." And the mom just rolls her eyes and says okay and walks away. Her son is only 8.

So do you think it's okay to curse with your kids or not.

I would never swear *at* a child like that.

There's a huge difference between saying, "fucking wow, piecaken is a thing that exists?!" and saying, "fuck you." The former isn't a big deal, the latter wouldn't fly in my home.

My husband and I cuss a lot. My whole family does and always has. I was taught at a young age that some words were for grown ups only and I will teach my kids the same. 
They will slip up but it happens. If they didn't hear me cuss, they would hear it from someone else and repeat it from them. The world isn't perfect and neither am I. 
As far as my young kids cussing with me, no. That's not okay. You need to be mature enough to know how to use certain words and when they are appropriate. I think high school age and above is a good point where I won't care as much if they cuss or not.

My mom cusses like i sailor even around me as a kid but never AT me you understand? Like theres a difference you don't cuss at your kids & call them names when they piss you off my mom never did that & i never cussed around her until i was 17 i think & it was just talking to her & repeating what someone said she thought it was so funny because she was like omg that's the firat time you have cussed

All of the older generations still and always have cursed around us. What is with this "when I was a kid" crap, you all are too young to be talking about how you had it so much different.

My mom could be a sailor. But even now as an adult in my mid twenties if I say one curse word in front of her she will whoop my ass. lol so I don't think because parents cuss in front of their kids the child will speak the same way.

To a degree, yes. It completely depends on the context.

We don't tell each other to fuck off or insult each other but fuck is definitely used as a comma in our house. Does that mean my son is allowed to talk like that in public? No, just like I'm usually not. Does that mean if he gets too mouthy and rambunctious with it than he isn't told to cool it? No. Does that mean we use any form of derogatory word that refers to a group of people? Absolutely not.

I don't view cussing as a problem until it is unnecessary or ment to be harmful. An acceptable example would be "Fuck, I stubbled my toe!!". Unacceptable would be "My teacher can eat shit".

Swearing AT the child is a no no. But the occasional accidental slip of the tongue IN FRONT of the child I won't judge. As long as you are being careful most of the time around your kids, & make sure when they do hear you cuss that they know not to repeat it.

My parents didn't allow it, said they were grown up words, but if a horse stepped on us or we fell in the manure pile we were allowed to curse for that (only ever "shit" or "crap").

It wasn't until I spent a lot of time with my bf's family that I started cursing. They drop them ALL of the time, but NEVER the kids. Lived there for a whole summer and not once did their 15, 10, or 5 year old drop any curse words. They also seem to have the set up where those are "adult words only" and even then the kids don't care or know enough of the words to use them when they'd typically be used. Or think farthead is more apt than bitch😂.

Umm no that kind of conversation never happened with my parents while i was young. When i was about 17 thats when it got that way but never in a disrespectful way. I would never tell my mom or dad to fuck off or anything like that. But our conversations do having cussing in them just like im having a conversation with my friends. My step daughter, 7 years old, just asked me recently when she is allowed to say bad words. I was so caught off guard i just said your not and she was like i know but when can i and i just kept saying your not allowed to.
