Help with topic for a project on civic discourse

I'm a junior in college and taking a writing course on ethics and civic discourse. We have to pick a topic to do a research project on for the later half of the semester and I'm having a hard time picking one that I feel passionately enough about to write a 15 page report and a few other 3-4 page proposals and reviews on. Some examples of topics are (BLM, feminism, etc) however I'm a republican while I agree with the basic underlyings of these movements, I think their execution is awful and would not like to write in support of them. Anybody have any ideas/topics to write about, it has to be something that causes civic discourse. I was thinking about doing one about how the public/civilians view the military but I don't know if my professor would consider it relevant enough. Please help!!!
