bottle night weaning method you used?

My 10 month old son wakes up multiple times a night and usually needs a bottle to fall asleep. How did you guys wean from a bottle? He's healthy and verrrryyy active. I've started trying to make sure he doesn't fall fully asleep on it and it's worked usually at bedtime. I still have to pat him and sing or something. I've tried lessening the formula and he usually cries. I try laying him down and patting him but that seems to piss him off. 🙄
