Tantrums at 10m old...

How do I stop my 10m old from throwing tantrums when put to bed? He's so tired I put him to bed and soon as I leave room there goes the loud crying hitting head to pack and play how do I get him to not do this? I want him to sleep this is even at nap time not good to have a sleep deprived baby help
