Do you want more/better, than what you had, for your own children?

Do you want more/better for your children than what you had, or do you think what you had is fine for your own children?

Hell yes. I was homeless at 17. I will never EVER kick my kids to the curb, no matter how old they are. Yes, my 30 year old son will probably be living with me in my basement. I don't care.

I'm afraid I won't be able to give my children the life that I had. My parents and family were amazing. Always made sure I had school clothes and everything I needed. We spent a lot of time together. I hope I'm half as good as my parents are!

Materially what I had was fine. My children will probably have less if I'm being honest. I hope things are better and easier for them in other ways though.

I did not grow up in a loving home even though I had almost anything I ever asked for. My daughter will never have the amount of stuff I had but she will know what it's like to see two parents who love eachother and treat eachother right.

I had everything material I could've ever wanted but not the support I needed. Instead of putting their own prejudice aside and actually supporting me, my parents would "correct" their wrongs by buying me shit and pulling out the "look how much we do for you!!!"
By that they meant spend money on me, not actually look after my mental health and respect who I am.
So chances are my kids wouldn't have nearly as much of the material things I had, but I'll make sure they know that that's because those things aren't what's important. And what is important- the support and love and mutual respect, and the freedom to be themselves, I will always provide for them.

I grew up in a very wealthy family but my parents made sure I busted my butt to work hard and earn our own money for college. My parents made it known that they were rich but all us kids were broke and needed to work hard. Now we're all college graduates with no student debt and we all have great careers. My parents did a great job raising us but I will definitely take my kids on more vacations. We hardly went on any even though my parents had more money than they knew how to spend.

I am very happy with my childhood, and I wouldn't trade a minute of it for anything! My mom worked so hard and did so much for us.

But, of course, I want to be able to give my child everything and more. I won't settle just because "well this is all I had as a kid". If I can do better I absolutely will.

My parents were divorced when I was 2. I'm 30 and I've lived in 17 different homes in 3 states. I've been working since I was 12. (Babysitting regularly for 3 kids under 5) I started taking care of myself when I was 7 and my brother was born. I could cook and entire meal by age 8. I helped raise my brother and sister. Add to that an abusive alcoholic step father, being overweight, and being poor. So yeah I absolutely want my kids to have better than I did. My son was born to happily married parents who own our home. We both will work our asses off to make sure he is safe and secure and gets to be a kid while he's a kid.

I hope my kids have married parents since I didn't have that. But otherwise I had a great childhood.
