Is it past or passed? Ex. I've had heartburn for the past/passed 5 months

I feel like it's past, but the again passed makes sense and idk why but it's bothering the heck out of me lol I feel like it's obvious and I should know this 🙄😒🤔

If you are referring to a distance or period of time before now, use "past". 
If you are describing the action of "passing", then you would  use the word "passed".

"Past" is a noun, adjective, adverb, and preposition, but never a verb. 🙂
