FTM losing her mind!! month old all of a sudden hates crib

My 1 month old from day 2 has slept in his crib with no problems and only wakes 2-3 times a night to feed. The past 3 nights he goes down at 8 like normal and wakes at midnight for his feeding. He now won't sleep in his crib after that. He will be dead asleep in my arms and the minute we put him down eyes are wide open and crying. The minute we pick him back up he is fast asleep. We have had 3 nights on the couch or him in bed with us. He doesn't nap very well during the day so I have tried getting him down for a nap every 2 hours thinking he is over tired. Any suggestions or experiences would be so helpful! I'm worried he is going to start only wanting to sleep if being held! Am I over reacting is this just a phase??
