What do you REALLY need in your hospital bag?

Question

I am delivering in a birth center and will only be able to stay up to 12 hours after delivering. I want to pack as lightly as possible. What do I NEED?

Your having a natural birth I assume since it's at a birthing center? Your bag would be different then someone going to a hospital. For example I plan on bringing a swim top for the bath, a massage bar for labor, essential oils for labor, an aromatherapy diffuser for the room, a speaker for low music, snacks + Gatorade for labor, a bag for wet clothes, clothes to go home in, a full diaper bag since My center doesn't give out much for baby, an outfit to go home in for mom + baby and that's pretty much it

Our hospital gave us a little booklet about their policies and what they suggest to bring and leave at home. You could ask them if they have anything like that

How long are you staying for? We packed towels and our own toiletries which my husband and I were so happy for. Comfy clothes that will be easy to pump or nurse in if that's what you'll be doing. If you're new to breastfeeding bring anything that you might want to ask the lactation nurse about (your pump, for example, if you're unsure how to use it). And going home outfit for baby. I always recommend something simple to get on and off and weather appropriate, but I know people love their elaborate going home outfits, so to each their own lol.

Clothes to leave the hospital in, toiletries like a toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush. Something to wear while you're in the hospital for 12 hours so maybe a comfy robe? And socks.. I think that's pretty much all you need

If you are having a partner come with you and you plan on showering during labor for pain management tell them to bring a swim suit if you want them with you massaging you or something and they don't feel comfortable being naked in the shower maybe getting peeked at by your medical team

Something comfortable to wear to leave in. Make sure the bottoms are baggy because you'll be wearing a giant pad. Pack a sports bra in case your boobs get engorged right away. Although that could take a few days. And basic toiletries like a tooth brush and deodorant and face wipes or something so you can feel a little more fresh afterwards in case you cant have a shower right away.
