Can sex make your period heavier

So I'm on Nexplanon and I've been spotting for ten days. Today, my boyfriend and I had sex and I got a bit raw from it. It bled a little from there when I wiped, then later a bunch of red blood came out when I wiped. I'm pretty sure it came from my uterus, but I don't know because the spotting has been brown all week. Can sex make your period heavier? Or should I be worried that it's from the irritated parts? Could it be a UTI? I feel like it wouldn't take effect that quickly and plus I cleaned up after we finished. I need some advice
