What is respect to you?

What is the basis of your definition of respect. Please feel free to share an example or your feelings about it. I'm curious to see how people of different backgrounds interpret what respect is.

Neither. Just because I respect someone does not mean I have to admire them. I respect people who have different ideas than me. I do not respect people who use those views to disrespect others. Fear is absolutely NOT respect. I feel like a lot of parents think if their kids fear them, they will respect them. That's not respect.

Context needed. I respect guns, I don't respect someone who might carry a gun. I respect the office of the USA president, I don't respect our current president.

The dictionary definition is
"a feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements."

So there you go. 
It's recognizing someone else's opinion/views/beliefs, intelligence, and or skills as valid and just as important as your own.  If someone expresses their opinion and you go "nope. You're wrong." Then you are not respecting their beliefs.

Neither. Respect for me is consideration. I consider that persons feelings, needs, point of view. I don't have to admire or fear someone to respect them.

I fully respect anyone and everyone untill they disrespect me or my inner circle and once you lose my respect you can not get that shit back
