BREAST TLC: There’s levels to this

Ev

There are three different risk groups for breast and ovarian cancer: average, increased, and high.

We all automatically start at average risk. Because 1 in 8 women will get breast cancer, which is nothing to sneeze at. You may be at increased risk if a mother, sister, or grandmother has gotten breast or ovarian cancer. Other situations, like radiation to the chest or an abnormal breast biopsy, also factor in here.

Women like Angelina Jolie who have been diagnosed with a high penetrance gene mutation, BRCA1 or BRCA2, would fall into the high risk category. Our AssessYourRisk.org tool is a great place to start to determine which level you are at.
