does the brand of a crib matter ?

Looking into cribs and was wondering if there is a certain brand that's better and why? Or if the brand even matters ?

Most of it is just a brand. A co worker was looking at a 4 in 1 online for almost $400 yet I can go to the Walmart and get the exact one for half price.

I don't think specific brands matter but I do think prices do. There's going to be a difference between $100 crib and a $400 crib even if they're the same brand. I have an expensive crib and it's very heavy and sturdy. It was $435 from babies r us. But I had it on my registry so I got 20% off with that, plus 10% because I bought it after my shower, plus 15% because I opened a credit card so after 45% off it was only $240!

Not at all. Functionality matters. Pick one that functions the way you'd like (wheels/ ease of access/space under for storage/converts to a toddler bed/etc).

Brand does not matter. It's more about the style and color you want and what you can afford. They are anywhere from $100 to several thousand.

I got a hand me down crib from babies r us. It's pretty sturdy but I know I wouldn't spend $300 on a crib.

It's a piece of furniture, so the differences would be the same as with any other type of furniture -- cheap couches are cheaply made, cheap cribs are cheaply made. I do know that there is a standardized size for all cribs for the mattress area for safety reasons, but other than that, it's generally a "you get what you pay for" thing, like anything else.

I think so. You could go to IKEA and get something that's made of cardboard and partical board that is flimsy and easy broken. Or you could go somewhere like pottery barn and get something solid wood that will hold up and not look cheap. But everyone has their budget and preference.
