🚨PSA: live bunnies aren't easter gifts- they're lifetime commitments

Clarissa • Mama

Easter is coming and you want to get your baby a bunny. Cute- get them a plush though. 🐰🐰🐰

Meet Maisy. 😍 Maisy is one of the coolest things to happen to my family, and she's super adorable and I love her too much BUT she's just as much of a commitment as a dog or cat.

Before she was fixed, she was MEAN- I have multiple scars that are over 4 inches long.

She'd bite with her big teeth that have PSI like a hippo (okay not that strong but it hurts a LOT) and her nails-even when trimmed- are like Wolverine's.

She is very well potty trained like a cat with a litter box, but that took work and lots of cleaning. We had to replace a lot of furniture because of her accidents and spraying.

Speaking of spraying- it's important to have a bunny fixed. Not only does it help with attitude, but it reduces the risk of cancers and other diseases.

Having her fixed was $400+ (more than what it costs for a cat or dog) and finding someone to cut her nails is nearly impossible so we risk bites and scratches to do it ourselves each time.

She sheds CONSTANTLY and with her fur being much finer than a dogs, it's like allergy season all year.

She also attempts to eat EVERYTHING. She doesn't live in a cage (because bunnies shouldn't but if they do it better be huge bc small cages cause lethargy and joint issues) and unless we bunny proof it, she chews it.

She eats walls, carpet, flooring, cords, keys, doors, and basically anything she can find.

Most toys and foods marketed toward bunnies aren't actually good for them, so you have to go the extra length to keep them safe and entertained.

We love Maisy.

We love having a pet.

We love that Olive will grow up with such a sweet animal.

But know that rabbits can live for over 10 years (especially when fixed) so they really will grow up with us.

Know what you're getting into before thinking a bunny will be a good gift.

It may be for your family, but please do research!

Totally adopt a bun if that's what's right for you, but please don't do it then send the bun off to a shelter after you realize it's hard work.

So many bunnies get sent to shelters or let loose (☹️) the month after easter.

Please do research.

Thank you 😍💕🌈
