Have a causal talk with him about the future and see what he says? Sometimes we girls can get a little anxious about getting married but guys seems to take it slower. Maybe you can causal mention to him that one of your friend got engaged and then start from there. It won't be easy but I always think that hinting wouldn't work on guys because if he's ready, he would propose. Try not to expect it because it will cause you disappointments if it doesn't happen.
