Is it worth it to file for child support?

Question

The baby's father and I only knew each 3 months prior to getting pregnant and he was all about it, but ironically a week before me finding out I was pregnant, he said he didn't want to try for a kid anymore. Now we aren't together or speaking to each other.

Now my question is, should I file for child support later on or should I just do it on my own if I can?

I have a lot of savings, and my familes help. I don't actually need him to provide for my child. Also, I don't know him that well, and if he isn't wanting to be a part of this child's life, by asking him for child support might make him want to ask for visitation rights. And at the moment he isn't interested at all.

I am just afraid that by me asking for support will open a door of him and my son seeing each other and since I don't know him, he might be a negative influence. I know that if I don't file, he will never intrude in my son's life. 
He is just running away from having to pay. If my son decides in the future to know him, then he himself can go and find him. I will provide him with all the information I have.

Yes, file. If you don't need the money just put it into a savings account for your baby.

File. Whether he changed his mind or not, it's his child and there is no shame for you to get money from him to help raise the child. Plus, it may seem like it would be better to just do it your own right now, but things change and your case isn't as strong if you wait years to file.

He helped make this child he needs to help raise the child. If he doesn't want to be in the child's life then that's on him. But he needs to help support his child and provide the necessary items like clothes, food,diapers, medical care, car seat, stroller, crib..... he needs to quit being a little boy and be a father and help raise this child regardless if you are together or not! It takes two to make a baby. Not saying you can't do it on your own I'm saying that your family shouldn't have to help you if they don't have to. File for child support.

Regardless if you file or not he still has rights to the child and can obtain visitation. So I say file. Put it in a savings if you don't need it. It could be a start to a college fund.
