Girlfriends are not respected

I don't understand why people make it seem like being a girlfriend/boyfriend is nothing. Especially on this app. Yes, husbands, wives and marriages are amazing and they get the utmost respect. I hope y'all understand what I'm trying to say. For example: my boyfriend was sick in the hospital from another crisis of sickle cell and the doctors completely ignored me. A nurse asked if I was his wife and I said, no I'm his girlfriend and was dismissed quickly. I understand marriage is the goal and that it's sacred but so is giving someone your complete commitment even before vows are said. Y'all get it? Or was ilthat confusing?
