Why is everyone so outraged about Dr. Dao?

Okay, here is my issue. This has made national news. The CEO has spoken out about it and apologized, it has been all over the news and gossip sites, policies are being changed because of this event BUT you see almost the exact same treatment with cops and black people almost weekly. The cops never lose their jobs and the story usually is briefly mentioned and then we never hear a peep from the victims. I dont understand this is any different. Whether you agree or disagree with United's policy...they LEGALLY had the right to tell him to get off. He TECHNICALLY breached contract by refusing.  Dont get me wrong, he was treated horribly...but it just frustrates me when everyone gets so worked up about a story that happens everyday on your streets and nobody says anything.

Actually Dr.Dao was in the right. Once he was on the plan they had no right to kick him off because of their mistake. Asking for people to give up their seats is a pre-boarding policy and procedure and since United broke their own policy by letting everyone on the plan first, he legally had the right to refuse.

No actually I think they're regulations stated if they overbooked, they needed to bump the passengers before they boarded the plane. Not physically remove them. They knew ahead of time they overbooked but the let passengers board anyways

Once you are on the plane they legally can not ask you to give up your seat because they overbooked.

That must take place before anyone actually steps foot on the plane.

That's why people are outraged. They don't think it can happen to "them". If he was black, this wouldn't have gotten as much traction. I read some tonedeaf idiot started #chineselivesmatter in response which is problematic because 1) Get your own fucking hashtag 2) He didn't die and 3) The man is Vietnamese.

People just happen to (🙄) forget that cops don't magically leave behind the biases and personal hatred they hold on them.

It doesn't help that within police forces there's this unspoken police silence. Like no "brother" or "sister" can do wrong and if they do you say nothing about it.

You know why we don't hear from the victims in police brutality cases against black men? They usually end up dead and cops get away scotch free...Dr Dao should be making headline news because he was a victim of brutality

Bottom line united fucked up. But people are getting out of hand.. at least from what I heard the lawyer address yesterday someone saying he's "The Rosa Parks" of airline passangers..

I gave up on this at that point. That's a bit of a stretch if u ask me.. he could have avoided all those issues by just getting off and later filing a complaint even calling local news stations to complain further.

Yeah the airline was completely wrong but let's stop trying to dilute other people's struggles to justify an injustice. It happens, we all know the cops are dick heads, let's just avoide getting fucked over further by simply cooperating

Form a business standpoint, yes the airlines had a right to kick him off the plane. However, the physicality of the situation seemed unnecessary. If you look at it from the perspective of the flight attendeds..what might have seemed like an unethical decision to us may have seemed like an ethical decision to them. Maybe this has happened before, the plane will not take off unless someone gives up there seat and flys on standby. Maybe the flight attendant had gotten in trouble before, for not handling the situation according to the airlines policies...and this seemed like the only solution...(not saying it is, but people do things under pressure) What I want to know is, how did the GATE attendants not figure out who was to be on standby before everyone boarded the plane.  This is definitely a product of poor communication and planning..and maybe this will teach airlines not to over book just because statistics says 5% of the booked seats won't show up.

Its in their terms that if no one will get off the plane, even w promise of money/tickets, its a lottery system. His seat was chosen along w 3 others. They all got up and walked out.

This man decided to turn back on the walkway to the plane and ran back! That is against security regulations and when you do that; they're going to pull you off. He lashed around and hit his head himself.

Should they have known it was overbooked before boarding? Yes. Should he have turned back and ran full speed towards the plane? No. In fact news is coming out that this guy is a piece of shit.

I've never liked United and would choose JetBlue all day but the full story was NOT the one that went viral.
