WTH is this?!

Question

I have been reading posts left right and centre where women talking about taking "emergency contraception" and "plan B"

WTF are these things? And with plan B, wth is plan A?

I am from Australia so may be a bit naive with terms. 
I have always either been on birth control, or used condoms so these options above are quite confusing to me.

Plan B is a type of emergency contraceptive, in this case a hormone pill that if taken within 5 days of sex should keep the woman from getting pregnant. It does not work if you are already pregnant, it only does if the sperm has yet to fertilize an ovum. I suppose Plan A would be to just let yourself get pregnant.

Plan b is a type of emergency contraception if you have unprotected sex or if the condom breaks. It prevents pregnancy if used correctly. Getting it right away is advised as it's protection lasts up to 5 days after it happens. There's no such thing as plan A. It's a strong dose of hormones. I have never taken it, but I know it's there if I need it.

Plan a is using condoms or birth control   Plan b is the emergency contraceptive if condoms or bc failed or in cases like rape. Some women choose to take them because they just want to have unprotected sex which isn't smart. It helps prevent the egg being fertilized.
