Doula Experience Amount?

I'm trying to find the perfect doula for myself and my baby. I don't think there is a necessity for a doula to be experienced since I'm not leaning on her for medical advice, but rather emotional support. My mom thinks it's important that she have attended ~50 births.

If you hired a doula, how many births did your doula previously attend in her experience? Or if you're planning to hire a doula, what is the minimum number you would feel comfortable with?

I'm just curious if me or my mom are the "weird" one lol.

My first pregnancy I had an "in training" doula who was accumulating her hours.  She was free and absolutely wonderful!

I wanted someone with decent experience (like more than 15 births) but I think having a good connection is more important than experience.

What's the purpose of a doula? I've heard the term before but assumed it's like a midwife. Judging from the responses on here and the question itself I assumed wrong lol

We used an inexperienced doula and she wasn't very helpful.

My doula had attended close to a hundred births by the time I found her. I would have happily gone with one in training but didn't know you could go that route at the time. I love my doula though, she was absolutely wonderful and still is. She's a midwife now but will still act as a doula for friends, free of charge. :)
