Is anyone else scared that their baby will get attached to their caregiver or is it just me?

I go back to work the day after tomorrow after 9 weeks of maternity leave. We have hired a nanny to come to the house and watch our son while I go to work. Apart from dreading being away from my baby to go back to a full time job, I'm really concerned that my baby will get attached to his caregiver and begin to prefer her over me. As silly as it may sound, I feel like all that time with her will make him love her more and me less. Anyone else or am I just being crazy?

A baby knows their mother. They spent 40 weeks inside your body. You bonded during those critical first few weeks of life. The baby will probably love the nanny, but it isn't the same love or bond that you share. I was worried about it with my daughter, and it was a non-issue. The benefit was that my daughter learned to be away from me, and she learned that there are other adults who can take care of her.

I was the same way. I cried so much the weeks leading up to going back to work. My son loves our nanny. I only see him for about an hour and a half (or less depending on the day ☹️) Monday through Friday but he's mine all weekend. I'm very happy he loves our nanny but even though he probably spends more time with her than me, every time I walk in the door his face lights up. She'll say things like, " he was in a bad mood all day," but then he's perfectly content with me. They know who you are. They know your smell and the sound of your voice and they don't forget it. I would much rather have a nanny who loved my son and my son loved than one that made him unhappy.
