daycare to nanny ... help 😅 please.

Miranda
So I've worked in daycare for three years. Most of my qualifications are with infants & that's where most of my experience is. I'm currently enrolled for psychology & childhood education.
My friend has a three year old little boy that she enrolled in the daycare I worked at a year ago.
I resigned from my position at work & was looking for another job. She thought that paying me to watch him (I've known her for 10 years) would be a good idea. He's the sweetest boy I've been around but it seems like now that we've been at home & not in a "school room" setting that he isn't interested in learning. He wants the tv, tablet, etc.
I've told him that during certain times of the day that we have to practice name writing, sight words, flash cards, & whatnot. But he's just not interested, so it's very difficult to get him to participate.
His parents use corporal punishment & have told me to do the same when it comes to pitching fits & not listening but it's not something I'm comfortable doing. It seems like bc he knows I won't spank him, it makes his behavior worse. It's week 3 & im honestly for the first time working with children, feeling like I'm doing a horrible job. I've tried bribing him (I know, it's wrong) with things like going to the playground, getting candy at the store & it's not working. Any advice is welcomed & appreciated.. schedules, discipline, any advice lol. I have him from 7-5 mon-fri
