important sex question

I got the test results from my doctor yesterday saying I had a bacterial infection and started the cream perscription the same day. Is it a bad idea to have protected sex while being treated for this? (treatment lasts 5 days) probably sounds stupid and I will most likely end up being safe than sorry but I want to know if this is medically frowned upon. (calling my doctor tommorow to ask but wanted to know your experiences with this)
