false positives? (I might have herpes)

So I recently had an STD screening and came back positive for HSV 1. I told my current partner who we thought had it on his lip and that's how it spread to me. However, when he got tested, he was clean as well, and that a different virus causes his cold sores. I've only been with one other person, and we were each other's first. But either way I told my ex and he got tested and he's clean as well. How common are false positives in Herpes testing? Because I'm baffaled. I'm
