Can we use a convertible car seat instead of an infant car seat to take newborn home from hospital?

Question

If yes, do we need to buy any kind of pillow supports or will a newborn fit in a convertible car seat?

Recommendations will be greatly appreciated!

The convertible car seat should have weights listed. Ours says 5-30 lbs. As long as your baby is within the range, you should be fine.

Yes, you can.

this is the convertible car seat I bought for my son and used when I left the hospital. (I bought this one because it will last him a long time and I won't have to constantly upgrade & I love it!!)

The hospital cannot legally require you to use an infant seat, it's simply a preference. I  would also educate yourself on correct installation, nurses are not required to have any kind of certification. At my hospital, they do not do anything other than observe that baby is seated in a car seat to go home, she stated to me that they cannot adjust the baby or make recommendations as its a liability issue.

Yes you can absolutely use a convertible seat. A hospital cannot require a specific type of car seat and they cannot prevent you from leaving! Just tell the nurse discharging you that you have a convertible carseat installed in your car and they will walk you off the ward.

We brought our baby home in the Graco forever 4 in 1 car seat which accommodates babies/kids from 4-120 pounds. We use a Chicco one now though because the seat easily clips in and out of the car into the stroller.

We were goinf to go convertible but thought about a couple things...1, every time we pull baby out of car we physically have to take her out of the seat or remove the seat completely, 2, 5lbs to 65lbs means it'll be kept for a while, how sorry will this thing get and Will it keep my 5lb baby just as safe as my 65lb kiddo??

We opted for a travel system so we could easily and effortlessly click her in and out with no issues.

I'd check with your hospital. Some require infant car seats while others are fine with convertible.
